Well the new year saw the arrival of some new pets! *cough*
They won't be around long...*cackles*...however! i'm sure each generation will have its time with me before meeting a very bitter...and crunchy!...end.

Meet the Frederick's and Mavis's of the button household!
These are the foundations of my first, brand spanking new Dubia roach colony. Unfortunately for those of you in the US i believe these aren't available too you, but don't fret! I hear there are some great alternatives that can be bred from your very own home :) .
As yet the colony isn't very large, with between 6-8 mature females, a good number of males and nymphs of varying sizes. Housed in a medium RUB (Really useful box) with plenty of egg crates, oats for bedding/burrowing and kept ontop of Montana's viv to keep them nice and toasty. They will get fed nearly EVERYTHING! carrot, apple cores, old CGD, left over sunday roast veg and cat biscuit to name a few. Hopefully, given some time to bloom (i estimate 6-8 weeks to start seeing it grow nicely), I'll be able to feed my gang and future offspring on homegrown bugs!
Now....these roaches do get a little big as adults, so may not be suitable for my cresties once the roach matures...but don't panic! left over adults? no problem! The gerbils love a good high protein treat to play and nibble at!
Have to say.....they are rather cute in a weird and twisted way...and NOISY! no one ever told me that they blooming squeeked lol! Roll on easter is all i can say! :D
